We are so pleased to showcase these fine Georgian Red Coral shaped top and drop earrings! A fabulous example of latter Georgian exoticism, the Corals are hand carved with a design considered to mimic pineapples...
In Georgian England, real pineapples were incredibly rare and astronomically expensive—even rented out simply as dinner party table decorations. Consequently, the fruit (and its geometric texture) became an enduring symbol of extreme wealth, refinement, hospitality, and warm welcome.
The nicely fluted tops and tiny caps work well together in sympathy with the beautifully hand carved Corallium Rubrum, having a gorgeous swinging movement when worn.
It is illegal to collect such Corals today, and so such jewels are highly coveted.
Stones: Mediterranean Corallium Rubrum
Metal: 9ct yellow Gold wires (a replacement of the screw fixings they came with) and base metal fittings
Measurements: they measure two inches from the top of the wires.
In most cases the boxes are for display only but a nice quality modern reproduction box will accompany this piece.
